What Should I Know about Gout?

Taking a Stand on Gout

Educating yourself about gout will help you to understand how it developed and how to control it. To best manage gout, get your uric acid level checked twice a year, eat a well-balanced diet but avoid foods high in purines or sugars, and start exercising. Try to do more with each exercise routine and look for exercises that won’t make your pain worse. The trick for exercising is to exercise the parts of the body that don’t have any tophi. There are prescription drugs available for lower uric acid as well as anti-inflammatory drugs to help with the inflammation at the site of the tophus. Consult your doctor to learn what might work best for your gout.
